The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic has been disastrous for almost every industry, to which the logistics sector is no exception. With things suffering a setback and operations getting hindered and delayed, it’s time for the logistics to buck up and make up for the loss encountered. The arrival of 2021 stresses largely upon making logistics an essential service. Despite the various setbacks suffered, logistics still proved to be a boon during such an unprecedented time.

Trying to make logistics an essential, mainline service is an ongoing process and there is a more positive outlook on the future of logistics and warehouse services in 2021. How? Let’s have a look:

The logistics market is expected to grow at a higher CAGR by employing cutting-edge technologies. This is because most companies are depending on automation and tech-savvy techniques to expedite their process and heighten their levels of productivity and efficiency. Going forward, a lot more are expected to adopt the advanced models of technology. Be it in tactical and operational decision making, fleet optimization, routing, strategic planning, data analysis, etc, technology is expected to be a dominant force by being all-pervasive.

An expected macro trend for 2021 would be to enhance the speed of deliveries, a crucial aspect defining customer satisfaction and happiness. Again, more attention would be paid to managing customers during deliveries to make sure that they return as repeat customers.

End-to-end visibility is what the logistics crave badly for. In 2021, we are highly likely to see shippers looking for improved reliability from carriers. Again, fabulous coordination by means of end-to-end visibility across all the departments and legs of supply chains is a pressing need.

Supply chains in warehouse will be more resilient and agile. The pandemic has shown them a way as to how to respond to any disruption and hopefully, in the future, the responsiveness will be 10x times. This would be achieved through the assimilation of speed, efficiency and cost, based on market demand patterns.

While manpower remains important even today in every sector, automation will enable the supply chains to attain an unimaginable level of efficiency; this will reduce the handling time, enhance employee performance and seamlessly allow the various processes to take place. On that note, drones and robotics might make their way to the future of the logistics arena, providing top-shelf and best-in-class- solutions for cost reduction and convenience.

Thus, with IoT services, better service reliability, and focusing on tech capabilities, the future of logistics appears to be much brighter!
